Product Overview
Alloy Steel Butt Weld Elbow is an industrial pipe fitting designed to change the direction of alloy steel piping systems while maintaining a reliable welded connection. Manufactured from chromium-molybdenum alloy steel, these elbows are suitable for piping systems operating under elevated temperatures, pressure and demanding service conditions.
Our alloy steel butt weld elbows are available in commonly specified grades including ASTM A234 WP5, WP9, WP11, WP22 and WP91. They can be supplied in 45°, 90° and 180° configurations, with long-radius and short-radius options available according to piping requirements.
The fittings are manufactured and inspected according to applicable standards, with ASTM A234/A234M commonly used for material requirements and ASME B16.9 for factory-made butt-welding fitting dimensions. ASTM A234 covers wrought carbon and alloy steel fittings for moderate- and elevated-temperature service.

Types of Alloy Steel Butt Weld Elbows
90° Long Radius Elbow
The 90° long radius alloy steel elbow is one of the most widely used configurations. It changes the pipeline direction by 90 degrees while providing a relatively gradual flow transition.
The typical long-radius configuration is 1.5D, making it suitable for general industrial process piping.
90° Short Radius Elbow
A 90° short radius elbow provides the same 90-degree directional change while using a more compact radius. It can be selected where installation space is limited.
45° Long Radius Elbow
A 45° long radius elbow provides a gradual directional change and is suitable for piping layouts where reduced flow disturbance and smoother direction changes are preferred.
45° Short Radius Elbow
This configuration provides a 45-degree directional change within a more compact installation space.
180° Return Bend
The 180° alloy steel return reverses the direction of flow and is used in selected process, heating and piping configurations.
Our referenced product sources list 45°, 90° and 180° elbows, as well as LR, SR, 1D, 1.5D, 3D and 5D configurations.
Key Advantages
Sealed Welded Joints: Butt welds achieve a continuous metal-to-metal bond, capable of withstanding harsh conditions such as high pressure and high temperature.
Excellent Flowability and Less Turbulence: Longer radius specifications reduce pressure drop in high-speed pipelines and mitigate erosion corrosion.
Comprehensive Material and Wall Thickness Options: Covers stainless steel (304/316L/321), carbon steel (WPB), and alloy steel (WP11/WP22), supporting various wall thicknesses such as Sch 10/40/80.
Complete and Traceable Quality Data: Provides furnace number traceability and includes MTC and EN 10204 3.1 material certificates, meeting project delivery and quality assurance audit requirements.
FAQ
What standard is used for alloy steel butt weld elbows?
+
-
ASTM A234/A234M is commonly used for the material specification, while ASME B16.9 is commonly used for factory-made butt-welding fitting dimensions and tolerances.
What is the difference between LR and SR elbows?
+
-
LR (Long Radius) elbows have a larger centerline radius and are commonly used for general process piping. SR (Short Radius) elbows have a tighter radius and are useful where installation space is restricted.
What is a 1.5D alloy steel elbow?
+
-
A 1.5D elbow generally refers to a long-radius elbow with a centerline radius of approximately 1.5 times the nominal pipe size.
Can you supply WP11 and WP22 elbows?
+
-
Yes. ASTM A234 WP11 and WP22 are common Cr-Mo alloy steel fitting grades and can be supplied in different sizes, schedules and elbow configurations according to project requirements.
Can you provide customized alloy steel elbows?
+
-
Yes. Custom sizes, wall thicknesses, radii and special configurations can be considered according to technical drawings and project specifications.
