There are many types of Round Steel, and the corrosion protection is different depending on the occasion of use. Let's learn with me.:

1.How to distinguish by material?

Ordinary carbon structural steel: Its designation begins with "Q," such as Q235 and Q355. This type of round steel offers high cost-effectiveness and is commonly used in construction and general machinery parts, but its corrosion resistance is relatively poor.

Alloy structural steel: Its designation includes the alloying element symbol, such as 45Mn and 20CrMnTi. The addition of elements like manganese, chromium, and titanium enhances its strength and toughness, and it is used in the manufacture of load-bearing components such as gears and shafts.

Stainless steel: Its designations often begin with "304," "316," or "410," such as 304H and 316L. Containing chromium and nickel, it offers excellent corrosion resistance and is commonly used in chemical, food processing, and medical equipment. Its surface is often silvery-white.

2.How to distinguish by production process?

Hot-rolled round steel:
Surface: Has scale, a rough feel, and a darker color.
Precision: Dimensional tolerances are within ±0.5mm or better. Can be used directly without machining, suitable for applications requiring low precision (such as construction rebar).
Cold-drawn round steel:
Surface: Has no scale, a smooth and bright finish.
Precision: Dimensional tolerances are within ±0.1mm, offering higher strength and suitable for precision parts (such as mechanical shafts and fasteners).
Forged round steel:
Surface: Mostly in a rough state, with forging marks, requiring subsequent machining.
Specifications: Often large diameter (generally over 200mm), with uniform mechanical properties, used for large load-bearing components in heavy machinery (such as large gear blanks and crankshafts).

3How to distinguish by appearance specifications?

Diameter:
Small diameter (≤50mm): Mostly cold-drawn or hot-rolled, used for small parts and fasteners (such as bolts and pins).
Medium diameter (50-200mm): Mainly hot-rolled, used for medium-sized components such as mechanical shafts and gears.
Large diameter (>200mm): Mostly forged, used for core load-bearing components in large equipment.
Length:
Fixed lengths: Commonly 6 meters and 9 meters (such as ordinary hot-rolled round steel) are available, facilitating bulk shipping and processing.
Custom lengths: Cut to size (e.g., forged round steel can be customized to 3-10 meters) to meet specific equipment requirements.

4.How to distinguish by performance and use?

Structural round steel, such as Q235 round steel, primarily bears static loads and is used in building frames, brackets, and general machinery bases.
Mechanical manufacturing round steel, such as 45# steel and 20CrMnTi round steel, requires high strength and toughness and is used in the manufacture of moving parts such as shafts, gears, and connecting rods.
Corrosion-resistant round steel, such as 304 and 316 stainless steel round steel, is used in applications involving contact with water and chemical media, such as chemical pipelines and food machinery parts.
Heat-resistant round steel, such as 304H and 310S stainless steel round steel, can withstand high temperatures (above 300°C) and is used in boilers and high-temperature equipment components.
