The Corrosion Challenge in Offshore Seawater
Seawater systems on offshore platforms, FPSOs and coastal plants operate under a combination of stressors that destroy conventional materials:
Chlorides (~19,000 ppm Cl⁻): drive pitting and crevice corrosion at weld seams, flange faces and under deposits.

Why Super Duplex 2507
Super Duplex 2507 is a 25% chromium, 4% molybdenum, 7% nickel ferritic-austenitic (duplex) stainless steel whose balanced two-phase microstructure gives it both the corrosion resistance of high-alloy austenitics and roughly twice the strength of 316L. Its PREN of 41–43 places it firmly above the seawater threshold.

Q: Is Super Duplex 2507 better than 2205 for seawater?
Yes for aggressive service. 2205 (PREN 34–36) suits less-chlorinated, lower-temperature duty; 2507 (PREN ≥42, CPT 50–60°C) is required where chlorinated seawater and higher temperatures are present.
Q: Can 2507 replace 6Mo (254 SMO) to save cost?
In most topside seawater piping, yes - 2507 matches 6Mo pitting resistance at higher strength and lower cost. Choose 6Mo only when extreme formability or very high PREN is mandated.
Q: Does 2507 need cathodic protection or coating?
